More than just a tour of the iconic Ponte Tower, Dlala nje serves the community, particularly the children, of the inner city, by providing a safe space away from crime and dangers. Community upliftment is part of their goal, and they achieve this through hosting tours, arranging volunteers and receiving donations to do so.
Our guide, Cynthia, grew up in the inner city and knew so many historical details. She was also kind enough to show us an example of the apartments that have undergone renovations to make Ponte habitable again after years of neglect, resulting from the building being hijacked by gangs. Besides residents, Ponte also contains many small thriving businesses as well as the community centre run by Dlala nje.
Highly recommend taking the tour, there’s plenty of safe parking and e-hailing points.

If you really want to feel Johannesburg, you have to go up high – to the 52nd floor of the Ponte Tower. Once a symbol of the rich white upper class, then of urban decay during the apartheid era, then a slum, today home to a remarkable social mix: from ambitious middle-class citizens to the remnants of the past. We’ve had the best experience in Johannesburg visiting Ponte Apartments with Alvaro. He gave us an incredible overview of the history of the building, providing context of key historical events related such as the apartheid and Mandela’s premiership.

The building is worth visiting both for its history and for the architecture. I’ve learnt a lot during this tour and I’d recommend it to everyone visiting Johannesburg.

We recently completed the Zimbabwe and Botswana Game Tracker Safari with Sunway Safaris and it was excellent.
The guides, Shandele and Dickson were hard working, efficient, had excellent English and were great cooks. Most importantly, they each had a wonderful sense of humour and were kind and generous. We called them “The Two Smiling Faces of Africa”.
The food was healthy, delicious and plentiful both on the road and at our accommodation.
The accommodation was much better than we expected and each place had something special going for it.
The Red Elephant was as comfortable as it could be considering some of the rough roads that we travelled on. There was plenty of leg room and large windows.
The tour was well organised in terms of the variety of places we travelled to. We saw many, many animals as well as a variety of beautiful landscapes including many natural features.
The tour was very well priced considering the inclusions such as entrance fees. We booked directly with Sunway. The communication was prompt and Grace was very friendly and able to answer all our questions.
We wouldn’t hesitate to travel with Sunway again.

We have just completed the Cape Town to Victoria Falls tour with Subway Safaris and had the most incredible time! The tour was absolutely amazing and everything we were hoping it would be!

All the locations are amazing and the variety of places from coast to dessert to rivers is just stunning! The wildlife is also incredible and we were lucky enough to see the Big 5 on our tour.

The accommodation were all extremely comfortable with some truly beautiful lodges! Yes there were some long, hot days in the truck but it was always so worth it when you got to the next destination and there are even chances for wildlife spotting while driving.

Lastly our trip wouldn’t have been what it was without the incredibly hardworking guides Jonas and Fundi! I cannot even begin to describe how hard they worked to ensure we were always happy and comfortable! The were so much fun and so knowledge about all things Southern Africa! They were also incredible cooks and our whole group finished the tour requesting them to write a cookbook.

We had an absolutely amazing trip! We did the Zimbabwe/Botswana Comfort Tour, starting at the end of September, and it was an unforgettable experience. The tour offers a fantastic blend of nature, wildlife, and culture.

Our guides, Dickson and Shandle, were incredible. Despite being on for most of the 16-day journey, they were always in great spirits, with a smile on their faces. Their extensive knowledge of wildlife, local culture, and the destinations we visited was truly impressive. No matter how many questions we had, they always provided detailed and insightful answers, which made the experience all the more enriching.

The wildlife experiences were diverse and breathtaking. Whether spotting animals from the safari bus, a 4WD, by boat, or during walking safaris, each setting felt unique. Moving between different locations throughout the trip kept the experience fresh and exciting, as it was like starting a new adventure every time. And yes we ended up seeing the big five!

Before the tour, we were a bit concerned about the long drives, but it turned out to be no issue at all. The drives gave us a chance to see more of the countries and gain a deeper understanding of local life. Our guides made sure to explain interesting details about the places we passed along the way.

Overall, huge kudos to everyone involved in planning this incredible program, and a special shout-out to Dickson and Shandle for making the tour truly exceptional.

The entire trip was incredibly smooth and well-organized, reflecting the careful planning and coordination by Phuthi and Ayibongwe. Their complementary skills made for a seamless experience that kept our group together and in good spirits throughout the trip.

Bush breaks don’t offer really good travel advise. I was shocked by the price of lodges in and around Kruger Park. So the person at Bushbreaks recommend I stay outside the Kruger at one of their special lodges. The lodge was good dont get me wrong but in reality the lodges in the Kruger included all the game drives which would have landed up substantially cheaper and more convent to stay in the reserve. So be aware of that. The consultants don’t advise you they are not on your side. The other really annoying feature of Bushbreaks is they charge you extra for a credit card payment which I think is against the Usary Act but I’m not certain about this. This is the second time Bushbreaks have let me down so before booking with them check all the aspects of what you are getting. Sometimes specials are nothing more than a ruse to get you to book through them.

We travelled with Glatt Safaris (as a family) and it was just incredible. The program was superbly thought out and the execution was perfect. The food was amazing (it’s wonderful having a vacation with such high quality and plentiful kosher food), and the service incredible. Every tiny thing was taken care of, and all we had to do was enjoy. The program gave us the opportunity to both see amazing animals (of course) but also to really experience Africa and learn about it. The tour guides were professional, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. The chefs, mashgichim and waiters are friendly and helpful. Bottom line, if you want to go on safari and experience Africa, and you keep kosher and want to eat really well, I couldn’t recommend Glatt Safaris any more highly. I had a very disappointing experience with RM Marvie Travel & Tours South Africa. I paid $80 for a tour that never happened, and despite multiple attempts to contact them, I never received a refund. We went to Israel with Heavenly tours in Aug 2016.
The tour covers many of the sites to be visited and the time spent at each was just right. We had an excellent tour guide, Yuval whose knowledge of the locations was excellent. With Veon assisting the trip went really well and attention to detail of the tour group was exemplary.
The hotels chosen were good, in that the accommodation and meals provided were of good standard.
The owner of Heavenly Tours SA accompanied us through most of the tour. Including the coach driver the whole team was very professional.
It was good to have a free day to do our own exploring in Jerusalem.
We also made good friends from the group, whom we have since met up with for a reunion.

We had an incredible 4 day Safari with Wildlife Safaris. From the pick up in Johannesburg to the return trip and everything between, their service, knowledge and efficiency were remarkable. Our two highly experienced, very knowledgeable, warm and funny guides, Barney Smith and Brian Gough Palmer, offered fascinating insights into animal behaviours and life at the park, showing us a huge range of animals and birds. The fascinating early morning Lake Panic visit and the rhinos on the night drive were highlights.

I cannot express enough how incredible an experience Arius gave us. He was an absolutely wonderful guide for 22 days. So I don’t think this review could be more objective. We spent a lot of time in the car, he is an excellent driver, which is important on the roads of South Africa, believe me. We were delighted to have Arius as our guide. Firstly, he had provided us with a comprehensive guide to navigate ourselves (because he already had a booking for that week) through the Garden Route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth.
He organised all connecting flights and transfers to meet up with him; our accommodation, and the safaris and then drove us through the breathtaking Kruger Park and Blythe Canyon stopping at the highlights along the way.
Arius was very knowledgeable of the wildlife through Kruger as well as giving us plenty of history and general information about South Africa too. He was always very thorough, flexible and accommodating to all our requirements both in the planning and during our time with him.

We did a full day tour with Solly and his company and it was one of the best amazing experiences we had in Johannesburg.
Solly came to pick us up in our hotel, and with a van with microphone, he started to explain all the historical dates of South Africa and the history of Johannesburg and, specially, from the Apartheid era.
With him, we visited the Constitutional Hill, and also the Ghandi place in the center of Johannesburg, also known as Maboneng. We passed next to the fetish market, and then we went to Soweto neighbourhood. There, we visited the Mandela house, the Vilakazi Street, the Hector Pieterson memorial and also the Regina church. Unfortunately, due to covid, the Apartheid Museum was closed but Solly also approached us there to explain what we can find there.
Solly is a very professionat tourist agence, who knows a lot about different aspects of Johannesburg. Any question you have, for sure he will have an answer.

Solly was our guide and did a great job explaining the history and sites, as well as navigating the crazy Jo’burg traffic. He picked us up from our hotel, had water in the van, a local lunch recommendation, and overall helped us get the most out of our day.

We had a great half day tour with Nathi visiting Soweto and the apartheid museum. We were a party of 3 with 3 other people, which made for a nice group size. It was fascinating to learn about South African history. We had two hours on our own at the apartheid museum. We couldn’t see everything so we had to pick and choose. Highly recommend this tour on a trip to South Africa!
