I got my hair silk pressed at Ruutos a while ago and I wasn’t impressed with the overall experience for a couple reasons: 1. The atmosphere became quite tense when the owner arrived. She seemed quite stressed and irritable upon arrival, and I didn’t appreciate how she spoke to some of the staff. The staff were visibly uncomfortable/scared in her presence. It was quite unpleasant to witness and I wish the owner would relate to her employees better, especially in front of customers. 2. The treatment and wash were good, but were overpriced and took way too long. 3. The silk press (which is what I came for) was a nightmare. I think they are good at working with natural hair in it’s natural texture, but lack experience at styles that involve heat and stretching the hair. The owner kept making snarky comments about the texture of my 4c hair. Throughout the process she kept commenting on how my hair is “too difficult” for a silk press and she will never do this again on my kind of hair. Mind you, I have regular 4c hair - the most common hair type in this country - and I have silk pressed my own hair before and got better results. I honestly think silk pressing is not their forte and it had nothing to do with my hair. I wish they had been honest about that upfront, then I would have gone to a different salon, like Peter’s, for the silk press.
