My husband went for a laparoscopic ureteral reconstruction on 15/02/2025 afternoon thereafter he was admitted to ICU 1 at Garden city. Post opp the Dr did not see him nurses said he'd only be coming on Monday or Tuesday. While visiting we noticed that at a drainage pipe pus was coming out we called his attending Nurse Notile she gave a don't care attitude. We had tk speak to another nurse who logged a request for his Dr to be called and even spoke to the ward manager because we aware infection after is a risk .
They couldn't get hold of him for a very long time his phone went straight to voicemail, how do you not check in with your patient post opp and his attending nurse did not even check on his wounds we made her and the others aware of the infection and eventually Sunday evening the Dr came only because we were persistent.
His infection markers are very high I called his rooms and the receptionist said she'd ask the Dr to get back to me on concerns I had this was around 12 it is now almost 2 and she hasn't gotten back to me even after I called for a second time.
My husband is currently at risk of kidney failure due to this infection and had we not noticed none of them would have known about the infection, before 7pm Sunday night the infection caused vomiting and shivering.

Dr Choonara is a Gem
Yes there may be a wait to get an appointment
And U might wait in his office
Always remember to drink lots of water when U get there
But his level of care is amazing .
Dr takes his time listening to the patient and does all his tests timeously .
He then provides a course of action and follows up with the next steps in time.
Very professional and very knowledgeable
Thank U so much for my care. It is so appreciated

A very compassionate Dr who walked the journey with me since 2017. He provided so much information and treatment on my condition that my colleague started referring to me as Dr. T. I really appreciate the time, the effort, the empathy he has shown all throughout my renal challenges. He undeniably is a great Dr who puts his patients first all the time. May God bless him abundantly.

My husband has a prostrate biopsy two weeks ago and results were out after a week. He didn’t even bother to inform us about results even after 2 weeks, we left 23 messages in past two weeks for him that your patient is bleeding badly but not even a single return call. He didn’t show up after the procedure at all. He didn’t try to call his patient that how he is keeping or return his call. Very very unprofessional behaviour. Who gave him doctors license. Wastage of time.

I cannot comment on how he is as a doctor as we never had the privelage of being treated after waiting over an hour in the waiting rooms. Our appointment was at 1 and at 2pm the guy who had been waiting for his 12pm was only seen. The least reception could have done was phone us and advise he was running late, our time also costs money and I am so tired of doctors thinking their time is more valuable, making patients wait for hours. I will rather find a Doctor that respects my time and honors the appointments we make Weeks in advance!
