It gets very busy. As an introvert, I found it a bit too overwhelming and was confused about where to to go.

I did, however, get to taste the BEST Cafe Latte on earth they use macadamia nut milk at no extra charge. The chocolate cake is also very rich

Good place

The food was well prepared, generous portions for kinda fine dining, that was awesome.

I scored the service a 4 because it was so prompt but our server could have been a tad bit friendlier. We did feel hurried at some point.

The location and ambience is top notch

Visiting Marble on my last day in Joburg was the icing on the cake of my entire trip… the restaurant has such a lovely and upscale vibe. From the reception to seating to the meals, it was just surreal… the waiters were very helpful and were always on hand to assist. The meal was great, I especially enjoyed the cobb salad and the sirloin with mashed potatoes… the mood was very chill and my colleagues and I really enjoyed our time there. The only suggestion (not sure how it can be done) would be having an alternative way of getting up to the restaurant since the elevator was not that big so for a big party (like mine), it took about 3 trips to get upstairs but in all it was a great experience and I would definitely try it again

Not a place i would ever usually visit. Unless a very generous person (in this case, my sister-in-law) is picking up the tab. When I saw the prices, I was not expecting them to match the product, but I have to say the food was spectacular. And I can understand why it was packed.

Beautiful spot. The food was good but could have been better, I had the duck dish, it was a bit too salty and dry. I unfortunately didn’t enjoy it. My dessert did however, make up for the not so great main. I tried the pavlova and it was delicious. The service was good and our waiter was attentive and polite. The restaurant itself is stunning, moved over to the bar area after our meal and it was a lovely chill spot to enjoy our afternoon. I would definitely go back and try a different main meal. Overall a pleasant experience.

Something was off this night, the food was mid but what made the experience worse is waiting for the food for a long time on an empty night and then the food arrives cold and mid flavors. We were there around 4/5pm and there was an all staff meeting which I believe made our food delay more. Not a great experience at all.

Incredible experience, I treated my partner for his birthday dinner at fire room after a friend had recommended it, and I can tell you I am not disappointed, this is hands down the best sushi iv ever had! The cocktails were also incredible, we tried a couple different ones. The atmosphere had a nice mood, fire and dimmed lighting.

What a lovely establishment with great aesthetics, the food was also amazing, although the service was a bit slow as it was a busy day. Owners should invest in more flambé devices as waiters were “fighting” for them in front of customers

Very well-kept restaurant, more concerned with aesthetics than quality of service and food.

Menu stocked but not particularly varied, quality of appetizers good but meat not at the price level.

Our server was the only downer but the food was excellent. We travelled from North America to join our extended South African family to celebrate a recent wedding and really wanted to have a good time, too bad our server was in a sour mood. With the right server and attitude this would have been an all around 5 star experience. Luck of the draw I guess.

Went there with the Bookworms book club for the 14th birthday celebration of the bookclub. The place has beautiful outside space and also beautiful and spacious inside. The atmosphere is chilled, no loud music which makes it easier to converse. The food was awesome and the service was great. It’s a great place for solo dates, bookclub meetings, business meetings etc. It is child friendly and they have a variety of beverages as well.

Bistro’s within supermarkets don’t really have the best reputation. Bland, uninspiring menu items are usually the order of the day.

Thyme seeks to change that rhetoric. Equipped with its own sushi and teppanyaki bar, there’s something for everyone at this establishment.

The pulled lamb burger and, believe it or not, their chicken, mayo and mustard on sourdough are wonderful picks.

The coffee doesn’t disappoint as well.

Need a quick bite that won’t break the bank? Early bird breakfasts ’till late lunch sushi, Thyme has it all. Great variety with friendly service. They aren’t shy with salm portions, and the cocktails were well priced. Food was a bit cold, but the windy day could have been a factor. We sat outside where decor was maybe an afterthought, but the urban forest view made up for a lot. We had a nice time and will be back.

Same day booking for Sunday lunch – seating for 6

Our waiter was a nice guy yet a bit slow. Starters were good and enjoyed. Mixed feedback about mains. I would not order the cape Malay fish dish – it was terrible- sent it back to the kitchen. Desserts were the highlight

Aesthetics of the place appeal to me, it’s beautiful on the inside and outside.
The service is below average, they’re not welcoming & friendly like other places. They should consider getting coffee grinds or something that actually works at repelling bees not those useless candles they insist on. We almost got stung and our waiter didn’t even come to try help, he only came at the end with the bill.
The food looks better than it tastes. It’s not as flavorful as I expected. Their Margherita cocktail was not bad.

I’ve been to Truffles on the Park a few times now, and it’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I visit a lot of places, but there are very few I go back to regularly—Truffles has definitely made that list. ⭐️

The vibes are amazing, with the plant-filled decor that perfectly complements the park setting. Plus, the view of the park is just stunning.

And the food? Brilliant. Where else can you get such a delicious burger served on an equally tasty bread bun? I absolutely love it.

That said, the pricing is definitely higher than most places, but if you have a higher budget or are looking for a special treat, it’s worth it. Even if it’s just once, I’d highly recommend visiting—you won’t be disappointed!

It was a lovely evening only marred by an inattentive waiter and a weak cocktail. We had the short ribs and they were deliciously flavoured and cooked to perfection. Even though we were seated near the kitchen, the ambience was good and it was an awesome Friday night vibe.

It was not our first option, but because I like a wine with my dine… the original restaurant unfortunately was not an option as they don’t serve wine . We decided on our ‘norm restaurant’ and on the way out we saw the fishmonger. Wow, wow, wow… Boesman had the prawns, I had the salmon. The food, the atmosphere and the service is nothing less than excellent! Thank you ever so much. Ps: the food comes so fast out, ‍♂️, have a chat with that someone special before you order . 5 stars for you thefishmonger illovo!

We went out to dinner in Rosebank tonight and had a wonderful dining experience. Came here for lunch with the family. We ordered chicken livers for starters. It was creamy and the livers were cooked well. Had surf and turf, seafood pasta, prawns with veggies. All the food was good it was just a bit steep on the pricing – – but service was great. Thank you so much Eve!!

Johannesburg. Rosebank

This restaurant is located in a shopping mall in Rosebank. My husband and I are seafood fanatics, and this is the best restaurant in the area offering fresh seafood.

Food:
They have a pretty big selection of seafood, as well as meat, poultry, and sushi. We stuck with the seafood and our favorites were the grilled lobster – so fresh and tender. The langoustines were perfectly cooked on the grill with garlic butter – so flavorful. You get to pick a side for your seafood. I’m partial to their green salad – fresh veggies and creamy avocado. Yum.

We also tried the fried calamari, which was soft and not rubbery at all. The mussels in white wine sauce were amazing too. No complaints about any of the dishes.

Service:
The service was excellent. All the waiters were super nice. We went there a few days in a row and they were always happy to see us. They cleared the dirty plates quickly, and the waiters were always around to help.

Overall:

We highly recommend this restaurant to any seafood lovers. Fresh, well-cooked, and the best place to find fresh fish and seafood in Rosebank.

It was my first time visiting the Melrose branch. From the moment I walked in to the end I was served with a smile. I wish I could remember the lady that assisted us name. Food is delicious and service great! Keep it up!

Had a platter for 2, and mocktail mojito 1L. Once had a similar drink at another OB and the ice was crushed, it tasted better imo. Also would recommend that they serve the mussels on a separate dish, that would help with the “half&half” starch choice as we found that the rice was small compared to the fries.

Best Ocean Basket in Johannesburg. Food is always great and service is excellent. Emily was our waitress and she made sure our food came quickly and checked in with us every few minutes to see if we needed anything else. Super helpful and efficient.

Ocean Basket Melrose Arch. The service and the food are equally disgusting. The management and staff even worse. At 1st we waited so long to be served then when waitresses came she advised that our preferred drinks are out of stock. (This happens, so no stress we ordered something else to drink, the moctails had no taste)
We received the most tasteless food ever. The rice was soggy and you could see it was just thrown in the pan. The calamari was drenched in oil and when we spoke with the waitress about it she said she’ll let the kitchen know and never came back, until she came to serve the people next to us. At this point I asked for the bill. She came back with the bill and to my surprise we were charged for the wrong dish, I questioned this with her and she insisted this is exactly what we ordered and I repeatedly told her and showed her on the menu what prawn and calamari dish we ordered. It was so embarrassing that I ended up paying the bill and she said I should speak to the manager and just left us there. About 10 minutes later I walked to the pay point and to my surprise there she was with the machine and I asked if I could now make a payment because I’d like to leave. I spoke with the manager and he said “I’m sorry this was your experience” I told him that we literally felt sick from trying to consume the food hence we stopped eating. I showed him my bill and advised that we were charged for the wrong meals and my bill highly inflated. He just said sorry hopefully you’ll have a better experience next time you visit.
We are currently suffering the worst running tummies and vomit like crazy. Non of us slept last night and we have to get to a doctor because we are so sick. I rate this place, its staff, management and the food minus 10 ( -10).

Don’t order something because it looks good in the picture on the menu – the food you get does not look or taste the same! We came during the Christmas lights (very busy) and our experience was not good at all. The restaurant had run out of still & sparkling water and the drink I ordered as an alternative was horrible, the chips were inedible and the salmon was horrendous and probably not safe to eat (our children didn’t even consume it). The staff were very apologetic but food shouldn’t be served if unsafe & the restaurant should have been more prepared for large amounts of patrons at this time of year.

I’ve been to Momo & O a couple of times, (both sitting down and take aways) and I enjoyed experience. The food is hearty and homey and bursting with flavour.
If you’re in the mood for delicious, crunchy Korean fried chicken wings, this is definitely the place for you!
The salmon and jasmine rice pokè bowl and the ramen are delicious, filling meals. I do think they’re more take-away driven due to the lack of parking which leaves the restaurant empty more times than it being busy when you would expect it to be. The food is good and so is the service.
I will continue to support and recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone.

After reading some of the awful reviews on Google, I was so hesitant to try this place but I was craving reasonably priced Raman for our group of 8 (it was Mother’s Day). What an absolute treat it turned out to be. The food was outstanding. We tied a few things like the Spicy Kalbi beef, etc and then a Seoul bowel and a few ramen. It was fantastic! All of it!

Thank you Momo &O, for a wonderful lunch.

The Miso Ramen was really tasty and the Korean fried chicken wings had great flavour (although it would be nice to have it served with rice). The restaurant had a nice vibe to it and the food was presented well. It was a very busy night, and they only had 2 waiters working the floor so service was slow but my waiter was really friendly.

I visited recently for the first time in a long time. Prawn chip appetisers are no longer served. Coffee machine was broken. The food used to be SO GOOD. The food was still good, but was missing specialty items listed on the menu such as pickled radish, spring onion etc. This went unacknowledged by the staff when the food was brought but the price was adjusted when we mentioned it. Worst part was that we had large bowls of ramen leftover and the restaurant had absolutely no takeaway packaging and didn’t really seem to care. We had to buy Tupperware at the Spar. !! Such a shame.

Original Asian Dining Experience. Food was great and portions were huge really enjoyed. Only issue was that during load shedding there is no back up power. However, I would recommend regardless!

Great restaurant. Food was yummy and the service decent….once someone realised that we had been seated. There was also a bit of a cold draught, so on cold days it might be a good idea to try and sit a little more “inside”. Well worth a visit.

Lovely restaurant with an upmarket vibe.
Menu is appealing. Service was good and prompt. Food is delish – roasted sweet potatoes was a hit. The pork belly was questionable portion size and I found the dumplings lacked flavour, both veg and prawn.

5 Stars – A Must-Visit Japanese Culinary Experience!

KOL Izakaya at Hyde Park Corner is an absolute gem. From the moment you step in, the ambiance transports you straight to Japan — sleek, warm, and beautifully designed. The attention to detail in both the service and the food is exceptional.

The menu is a perfect blend of traditional Japanese flavors with a modern twist. Every dish we tried was thoughtfully presented and packed with flavor. The sushi was incredibly fresh, the wagyu simply melted in the mouth, and the cocktails were expertly crafted.

What truly stood out was the impeccable service — professional, knowledgeable, and warm. Our waitron Carlos took time to explain each dish and offered excellent recommendations. Ask for him by name.

Whether you’re a seasoned lover of Japanese cuisine or a first-timer, KOL Izakaya is an experience worth having. Can’t wait to return!

Our waiter was the absolute best this was my first time at a Japanese cultured restaurant so I didn’t really understand the menu too well, but our waiter walked us through it and provided stellar recommendations.

Started off with the pork ribs, which were a bit too salty, but were cooked well – 6/10

Then had the king prawns, was an absolute 10/10, hands down the BEST prawns I’ve had, it was cooked to perfection!

Last thing we had was the salmon fish, which was also cooked to perfection, I forgot the sauce it was cooked in but it was a solid 8/10

For drinks, we had the plum sake and ginza ninja drinks, for the first time, and they were really good!

We didn’t have mains, so our bill wasn’t too bad, but the restaurant in itself is a bit pricey, but it’s definitely worth it for a special occasion!

I can’t wait to visit again!

We had a number of exciting things to celebrate – one of them being our anniversary. Well, boy, did the staff and manager go above and beyond to make our first time at KoL truly memorable – from different things to taste to a dessert with the words “happy anniversary” written out in chocolate. The food was absolutely delicious – with a huge menu, one would think there would be room for error, yet, they executed every dish perfectly. We have found our new favourite place. They also serve the best beer on the planet – Asahi, Kirin and Sapporo! Thank you to Sisa and to the manager for being attentive and making our experience one of the best we have ever had. We will be back and cannot wait to try the rest of the menu!

Customer Reviews
We went here during restaurant week. We had seen reviews that they were usually out of stock of items and no surprise when we got there they were out of stock of quite a few things which is not great. The food over all was average…some were really good and some not so good. For those wearing heels, beware the stairs to get there are crazy. The vibe is okay but some spots are a bit too dark. I don’t think I’ll go back.

Decided to visit for the 5 course tasting menu on Restaurant week.
Disappointed on arrival to find out that more than a few of the Restaurant week menu items were not available.
Couldn’t even order coffee because the unbothered waitress advised that it was broken. From what was actually available – the Korean chicken wings was the only saving grace. The Peking duck pancakes were dry and flavorless. The beef Cheung fun was served on severly overcooked rice noodles. The beef Bao was just that – beef and mayo on a bao bun. The menu said that it comes with kimchi but I suppose that wasn’t available as well. The vegetarian dumplings was unseasoned chunks of onion, mushrooms and edamame with a horrible overuse of what seems like a corn starch slurry that seeped into the dumpling.

Not a good experience at all. A real shame seeing that a beautiful and prime spot is being by wasted on an establishment that cannot live up to their menu and provides lack lustre service.

Momo Kuro was a recommendation from a local friend and overall was a good. The food was delicious, and the prices reasonable.
Unfortunately, there was a minor hiccup: some dishes arrived cold, the spring rolls and Korean fried chicken wings. However, the friendly staff quickly rectified the situation by taking them back to be reheated. Once returned, they were perfect. Hopefully they won’t make this mistake again, cause the the restaurant has amazing vibe and the food was overall tasty.
Also a note that they don’t serve alcohol, but you’re welcome to bring your own. I will definitely give it another try when I’m back again.

Great for sundowners, can be a bit noisy if one sits outside. Overall atmosphere is good.
The food is a hit and miss. Some dishes are amazing, and some are ok.
A nice touch with the chopsticks, not the standard ones one often finds.
The big obvious one is, no alcohol is served, so bring your own if you are feeling for something stronger.
I think they could incorporate non alcoholic cocktails into their menu. The drinks as they are, are a bit light.

I have been at Momo Kuro twice this month for dinner (Tuesday and Thursday night). The food is incredible and the views are great.

There are quite a bit of stairs to get to the restaurant, but the restaurant, food and views are well worth it. I would suggest booking a table and having an early dinner (before 19:00) because the parking is limited and it tends to get very busy in the restaurant.

The service I have experienced has been incredible and the manager, James, is on top of things. They don’t have a liquor license, but they do allow you to bring your own alcoholic drinks/wine/champagne and provide you with wine glasses and champagne flutes.

I cannot get enough of Momo Kuro!
