Customer Reviews
Food was really delicious and good value for money. I really enjoyed it. Pizzas are fantastic, we ended up ordering around 10 of them through the night. We started off at the restaurant for lunch and then went through to the bar area. Pool was enjoyable and they had a DJ which ended the night of with a bang. We spent over R6000 that night. Had a great time. Only issues were the barman who have really bad attitudes, but so do the management so it filters down. Waiters were awesome

This place was soooo cooool! I’ve never been to anything similar in terms of theme and design. If you are a big sports car and/bike fan you will absolutely love this place, maybe even do a birthday there!
And the gocart racing track on the upper level just makes the experience so much better! (Photo attached).
(Not a place for kids).

Place was beautifully decorated – motor themed, very vibey and there were a lot of people maybe because it was a Saturday night. There’s 2 sections, a restaurant section and a bar/club section which is strictly smart casual so no joggers allowed.
We had the platter with the chicken wings, Jalapeño Poppers (perfectly cooked and so full of cream cheese, wow!) and Chips, was really good and filled the two of us. It was really affordable. The Food and drinks came really quick, thank you Annie for being so great and taking care of us❤️ will definitely be back again!

This is really a great venue for sport lovers but especially if you are into motorcycles. As a MotoGP nut I enjoyed the decor tremendously. The food was fresh and delicious and the drinks were reasonably priced, lots of waiters who are super friendly. An all round great experience.

Ridgeway Race Bar is a cool spot with fantastic vibes and great entertainment. The pool tables are well-maintained and perfect for some fun games with friends. It’s also a great place to watch sports, with plenty of screens and a lively atmosphere. The highlight is definitely the amazing bike on display, adding a unique touch to the decor. Overall, it’s a must-visit for a relaxed and enjoyable time.

It’s always a great chill vibe when you bring good people around not to meet other people. The service was great but it was just a delay with your food order and you have to always enquire. The server are always around to ensure you that everything is always around the corner and you are around the corner you have to watch out for anything when outside. Mcuh appreciated to the guy who was handling us.

What a fun place. Amazing friendly staff.. delicious 2 for 1 cocktails before 7pm a brilliant shared seafood platter that had an amazing array of flavours and sauces.
Do yourself a favour and pop in. Get a cocktail
recommendation..try some of the food. You won’t be disappointed… Jazz on Wednesdays and karaoke on Fridays add to the fun.

Had an awesome Comedy night… Only thing I had a problem with was the waiter who brought all my beers open found it very disturbing as the beer acid was being exposed… but will give it another chance

This place has quite the chill vibe in the middle of a summery work day. The drinks are tasty and the staff on-point. A Melville Must-do.

Customer Reviews
They tried to scam me, presumably because I am a tourist. Lady with a hat followed me in from the street into the bar. I had to flag the bartender for his attention because he was sitting on his phone behind the bar. They didn’t have vodka. Bartender specifically asked if I wanted a double I explicitly said no. Bill came back from lady with a hat double charging me. I asked about the charge and she said I ordered a double. She said she couldn’t take one drink back because it was already mixed. After being caught they resolved the issue. I saw them behind the bar later pointing and giggling. I work too hard for my money to be played with, especially when a double shot is not an actual double shot. I can’t recommend this place

Great on Sundays, All gays in Jozi come to party at shakers on Sunday, I had a great time
Rodgers Palai

Great place with friendly staff. Place has affordable food and drinks, they need to improve their restrooms … it was a nightmare, sink doesn’t work, door handles were broken and if you were to find toilet paper it’d be on the floor.
Also … great music
Andile Munatsi

Friends invited me to meet up with them over at Shakers on a Saturday night. Not the best experience. It was so full I had people stepping on my toes several times, it was impossible to dance. Paid 50 bucks for entrance, music is great and loud, drinks are not too expensive, and there’s plenty of pretty ladies. Bouncers are rude though.
Themba Khanye

The bar is lit. It gives a great weekend experience. The VIP section, rooftop and bar is well structured and has class. The tables have enough space between them to allow dancing for “shakers” in the mood. They serve a wide variety of alcohol at reasonable prices. It’s one of the hyped places in Maboneng

Customer Reviews
The restaurant is clean and the facilities were tidy. The crumbed mushrooms were really good! However, the ribs, nachos, and wings weren’t to our liking. The service was average even though the restaurant was very empty and our waitress didn’t ask us what sides we wanted with our meal. When we asked a few minutes after we ordered, if the dish came with different sides, she said yes and told us she assumed we would have chips. I can commend the friendliness of the waitress who helped us, even though she wasn’t thorough with our order.

We were in Rosebank Johannesburg for a few days before our trek to Kruger Park. This place is a nice walk north. The food was very good and the beers, too! The staff was very friendly. Would definitely go again if in the area.
Karen M Justl

Nice safe place in summer to feel te breeze of air on an elevated terrace while shipping away on a beer of choice. Many available.
Hans Wieringa

The food here was so so so good. They had the best wings I have ever had. We came here just after they opened so we enjoyed it whilst it was pretty relaxed. The portions sizes are really good. Definitely a place I will be happy to go to again
Jay Joan

It’s a decent spot overall, however my partner and I were pretty disappointed with the food. We ordered the Hog Board and ordered the pulled pork tacos, the beef brisket burger, the Johannes’burger and the Italian slammers. The best thing on there was the Johannes’burger. The sauce and the meat in the tacos DID NOT smell nor taste fresh. Personally, I’d recommend just coming here for the drinks.

Always a good vibe, great music, superb food and friendly service. Great venue with a wonderful soul – occasional live music and awesome DJ residencies too. Check out Thursday nights for a good rock vibe and end of the week shenanigans

Great food, great music, great vibe. A gem in the heart of Melville. Get your fill of craft, beer, whisky and adult drinks, some great food and eclectic music. A definite must top try is the house whisky infused with cinnamon – Hell Fire
bongai zamchiya

The service was great. The food took quite a long time to make and some ingredients were missing due to there not being stock. The flavours of the food were wonderful, maybe just an off-day in Hell’s Kitchen, usually a much better experience than the last. Come on guys, don’t let lockdown get you, you’re better than this!

Copyright ©️ blackjohannes. Pictures as is, not edited or altered. Best place in Melville to go to. Mostly cool and funky people hangs out there. It is a low light place which create a love ambience. A few couches to sit on and tables. There is an outside seating are and a small “courtyard” are for people to chill. The music is great, but a bit loud at times to have a good conversation. A nice size bar, with a good selection. The selection is obviously geared to serve a specific market. Multicultural so it makes it a great place to hang out. Wish the “smoking libary area” was for non smokers. Such a nice chill place on the couches. Off Street parking. Efficient service with good choice of waiters and barmen. Keep it up. Melville, especially 7th Street still has a problem with cellphone theft and petty crime with car guards a nuisance and dark areas an issue. You never feel safe in the streets walking. BEWARE OF CELLPHONE THEFT, VALUABLES. IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE IN MELVILLE, ESPECIALLY 7TH Str, 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Ave.

Customer Reviews
Went to try the food on a Wednesday for lunch, the restaurant was empty so I was quickly seated, which was nice.
However, the food was not that good. I ordered off the Tapas menu.
Prawns: the prawns were not fresh. They had a mushy texture. Could not really taste the butter, garlic or salt. Disappointed as this was a recommended item on the menu.
Miso aubergine: they were ok, but I thought they would use cream cheese instead of goat cheese. I am not a fan of goat cheese, so I was taken aback when I tasted it.
Bao with beef: Baos were nice and fluffy but the actual beef was not very good. I think the beef was either cooked frozen or the grill temperature was not high enough as it tasted like meat that started being pan fried, and ended up boiled as the juices came out.
Maybe the food tastes better during the weekend. Note: orange juice was good.
hin wong

Imagine ordering 600g ribs and 300g chicken wings only to get 5 ribs and 4 chicken wings. Crazy crazy…
Also, super limited menu, why have cocktails if you are only serving 3 of them.
If I could give the food negative stars, I would.
I actually like La parada but this one acts like La parada from SHEIN
Jireh de Almeida

Went there on the 20th of March 2025(for Strictly Soul). Booking was for 19:30. When Xolani showed us where we gonna sit I was shocked because I booked inside not outside. The seats and table were uncomfortable and small. He had to remove cutlery so that everything fits. Asked to speak to the manager Zanele. She then moved us to a corner shaky table where everyone passes there and it doesnt belong there. She said inside its for 4 or more people. How so because around 7 there was a couple that sat inside. Then we asked to sit back by the high chairs because our drinks will fall. Then we ordered our drinks and food at 18:20 after we went to the car for 20 min just to warm up because it was chilly outside. We came back than sat for a solid 30 min no drinks no food no one attending to us.At 7:15 Xolani came with the drinks. Our food only came at 8:00. The pizza base was soo crispy. Then at 9 Xolani toke our plates and we ordered more drinks. They came at 9:40. Xolani was doing hour intervals with his service. We were passive smokers because of the outside seatingin the meantime we dnt even smoke hubbly. At one point there was a marijuana smell. Asked for the bill it came 40 min later. First time going to a La parada. Will try other branches as for Rosebank I am thanxs. What a terrible experience would not recommend the Rosebank branch to anyone.

Outstanding Service from Thabo at La Parada Rosebank!
My friend and I had an amazing experience at La Parada Rosebank , thanks to our fantastic waiter, Thabo! From the moment we sat down, he made us feel welcome with his warm personality and great sense of humor. He was super patient with us as we decided on our drinks and even suggested a cocktail that turned out to be absolutely delicious!
Thabo’s service was impeccable—attentive but never intrusive, and he kept us entertained with his funny and friendly vibe . It made our girls’ outing even more special. If you’re dining at La Parada, I highly recommend asking for Thabo,he truly knows how to make the experience memorable!
We’ll definitely be back!❤️❤️

Prawn pasta was ok , really filling but like 6 prawns only.
The Malva pudding , nice big portion.
The Jalapeno poppers were small balls .
Overall forget visiting on a Friday night was packed to capacity.

Very nice and chill place. Food was really good and their wine selection by the glass has a lot of selection where you can taste different kind of wines. Khumbu was amazing and genuine always checking up if everything is alright. Great place to enjoy food and drinks with friends or family.

Absolutely enjoyed the Friday night vibe. The dj was Absolutely fantastic. The food was okay. We ordered prawns and the pork ribs, quite tasty and well cooked. The atmosphere was my highlight honestly. The summer set/ sunset cocktale(dont remember the actual name) was very refreshing. Very different to what I would normally go for but I enjoyed the zesty taste. The service was a bit slow but understable because it was very busy. The prices are not too bad as well. We spend R900-R1000 overall.

After we were stranded in a completely wrong rooftop bar – which we quickly left before the bad vibe did us any permanent damage – we ended up here. Jackpot. Berlin minimal tech house in the air, a green oasis instead of a concrete jungle, plus a view of Johannesburg that almost makes you forget that we’re not in Cape Town. The prices were a dream. The service was friendly, fast and without a hipster attitude. DJing here is definitely just as much fun as coming here as a music lover.
Tilman Benecke

This was my introduction to the Maboneng Precinct and to The Living Room. My friends however, had been here before, so it was decided that we would enjoy lunch here, after a fascinating and informative tour of Ponte Tower (my review is available on Google maps). Seeing parts of Jozi having a renewal and revival is heartening. This place offers good food, drinks and vibes and you can spend a good portion of your day and night just chilling with friends. A DJ is on the decks which really adds to the atmosphere.
The food and drinks were enjoyable and there was plenty to choose from, even for the vegan in our group, with a few changes to suit his requirements.
The menu is modern pan African and this little twist lends itself to the cocktails as well.

We visited Living Room Sunday, January 7th We arrived around 1:30 p.m. and stayed till 6:00 p.m. I think. We had hummus which was delicious, different than I’m used to but very good. You should try it. We also had their cappuccinos which were delicious and they had cool designs on them. Always a plus in my book. We ended up changing seats three times, our server didn’t even mind. I think she was the server to the entire room and she was phenomenal! We moved three times? Yes, we arrived and sat at one table but when space opened up at the chairs facing the view outside we moved over there. There’s a gorgeous view of the city and so many pictures to be taken. However, it started raining so we moved back away from the window. We had come for Feel Good Sundays, to hear DJ 2Lani the Warrior spin. He was awesome! And Living Room was awesome. Very welcoming. I loved all the plants, everything was so green! I’ll definitely try to make my way back before I head back to the US.
rose berg

Great space, though it gets hot at sunset . They do have hand held umbrellas to navigate it, and once the sun goes, you’re good. Cocktails are great. Cool place for sundowners. Meat platter was generous and enough for 4 people .
Mayanga Sithole

Beautiful venue, with great views over the city. Parking can be a bit of a problem and the food is ok‘sh – perhaps the waiter should not ask how the steaks should be done, if all of them arrive medium to well. Still well worth a visit though.

Had my 40th Birthday at the Milk Shed – function venue at Milk Bar – from the venue, to the staff, the drinks and the food were all exceptional! HUGE shout out to Malungelo the manager who assisted me in every aspect of the planning and execution, as well as a special mention to Celeste who made sure all the guests were well looked after and happy!
Exceptional venue, outstanding staff, incredible food!!

We went to Milk Bar for brunch and had a really good time. Coffee was great, food was good and a nice vibe. Also child friendly with baby chairs etc. and plenty of outside area to walk around. Wasn’t very busy when we went but as this is more of a pub I would imagine it could get very busy in the evenings especially with major sporting events. Definitely worth a visit if you in the area.
Gregory Doukas

Cool new trendy outdoor venue. Great for kids, Sunday lunch, cocktails & very chilled vibes. Refreshingly different menu. Beware of the deceptive “boerrie roll” which is actually a pie!

Really done up nicely for previously. The venue looks absolutely stunning now and the food is amazing.
Did find it a bit loud.
Will be returning. Thank you

The venue is beautiful. Great vibe. The service was a bit slow as there were lots of year end functions being held. The menu is a bit limited, but the food tastes great

Customer Reviews
We three all had pizzas at lunchtime on a very quiet Thursday so made our own atmosphere. Food and drinks and service were great but I didn’t like to smoking allowed in the bar area. Probably worth a return visit in the evening when there’s music and more vibes. 1929 says something about longevity of this landmark establishment.

One of the few old school spots left in South Africa. Well preserved and honestly, a rare gem. I’d buy this spot if I had the dough
Representative of better times, one may find themselves here if they’re actively seeking a bit of nostalgia. The walls are adorned with past headlines as well as bands and famous races that have occurred in and around JHB. The feel is homely. A rare gem

Best pizza in town! Friendly service and great atmosphere! Please support this local business. Tuesdays are half price pizza (for sit-down only) and quiz night, too, where you can win a meal voucher.

How many years have I had beers here? How many people did I meet here for drinks and a pizza?
Have a Tueaday half price pizza special. (R10 extra for a take away box)
The beer is still ice cold and the vibe is still cool. Service is very friendly and good.
As with most bars, smoking permitted (don’t let the no smoking sign fool you).
Be aware when parking (as everywhere in SA).
Do look at the free beer massacre and the “the situation is vrot with danger” signs.
Lekker vegetarian options for the pizza

While it is old. The food especially pizza is excellent and the manager Bryan is amazing. Always helpful and welcoming
