Our experience with Boskruin Veterinary Clinic has been nothing short of appalling. This clinic appears to prioritize profit over proper diagnosis and care. When you take your beloved pet to a vet, you expect an accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment – especially considering a fee of R2500 – not a cycle of ineffective medications designed to line their pockets.

We visited this clinic because our furry companion was wheezing and coughing incessantly every night. The veterinarian diagnosed hookworm and prescribed a dewormer along with prednisone. Three weeks later, there was no improvement; our pet continued to wheeze and cough up phlegm every night. When I contacted the vet again, she suggested a new round of medication – at our expense – despite their initial treatment failing to address the problem.

The replacement prescription as per the veterinarian doctor was supposed to include cortisone and a cough suppressant. However, when my partner picked it up, the medication consisted only of cortisone and codeine – an empty packet labeled “codeine,” no less.

This level of negligence and mismanagement is unacceptable. We trusted them with our pet’s health, only to be met with incompetence and frustration. Our pet suffered needlessly, and we were left with wasted time, money, and heartbreak for our pet not being any better.

Do yourself a favor: steer clear of Boskruin Veterinary Clinic. Your pet deserves far better care than this.

Our family has been going to Boskruin Vets for about ten years and I LOVE this practice. The team of vets truly care. Marcus and Peter has come to our house to euthanise three of our aging/sick dogs and their empathy really helped us to cope with the heartbreak. Fantastic people, excellent receptionists like Dani. Thank you!

My cat “ Little Guy” sadly passed away on Wednesday the 17th January 2024. HIT and RUN – in – broad daylight ! What a way to start the New Year ! Someone had kindly dropped him off at Boskruin Vet. Upon arrival, I was greeted with such awesome people. The one lady ; her name is Caitlyn was so extremely supportive and assisting me with such compassion. She led me to my cat ‍⬛. She gave me a private moment to mourn and cry . I seriously love this vet . They offered me different options for either a burial or cremation. I wasn’t quite sure as yet and so they had kept him overnight in a cool place , so that I could make better decisions the next day and so that I could get a special mould of his little paw as the lady that did the paw moulds weren’t in on that day. They gave me a wonderful poem with his paw prints on it. This Vet is NOT just ordinary , they really do go all the way to make you feel better and special . Caitlyn you’re amazing ! Thank you for your warm hugs and kind words . I was so indecisive and she could see I was having a hard time making a decision. Caitlyn made things so comfortable for me and easier. I LOVE this vet !

We recently moved to this area and had to change vet, which is always daunting. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the vet did a thorough check on our sick dog. We were also pleasantly surprised by the bill and happy to say we have found our new go-to clinic. Thank you.

I recently had the pleasure of consulting with Dr. Liezle Crous at the Johannesburg Specialist Veterinary Centre for our nearly 8-year-old wire-haired terrier, Whiskey, who was having difficulty eating over the weekend. From the moment we arrived, Dr. Crous was incredibly attentive, listening intently and asking insightful questions to narrow down potential diagnoses based on her initial assessment.
We had to leave Whiskey overnight for further testing and a procedure where Dr. Liezle skilfully drained an abscess located behind his left eye, accessing it through his mouth—a task that seemed quite challenging. I was impressed by her confidence and competence throughout the process.
Now, I’m happy to report that Whiskey is back home and doing wonderfully; he’s eating like a champ! The care provided by Dr. Liezle can be summed up in three words: confident, competent, and caring. I highly recommend her services to anyone looking for exceptional veterinary care. Thank you, Dr. Liezle, for your dedication to our furry family members!

SHOCKING EXPERIENCE AT JOHANNESBURG SPECIALIST VETERINARY CLINIC (JSVC). THEIR HORRENDOUSLY POOR POST-OPERATIVE CARE HAS LED TO IMMENSE PAIN AND SUFFERING OF MY PET AND LIFELONG DAMAGE AND COSTS.
I took in my cat who had growths in her mouth to have them removed at their suggestion by specialist surgery. Note that the cat was happy and healthy, eating like a champ, and in no pain prior to the surgery other than oral lumps which we still had to biopsy to rule out cancer.
Twenty five thousand rands later, due to overnight staff clearly not having monitored my cat whose tongue swelled up massively, post-surgery; she could no longer eat and drink, and was at death’s door in the week to follow. She looked like she had a saucer in her mouth her tongue was so swollen.
Although I was PROMISED pre-surgery that the night staff check on the animals EVERY HOUR, she was in a SHOCKING CONDITION the next morning (a Friday). I was assured by the vet that even though my cat would sleep in her little cat “igloo” overnight, they would take her out of the igloo and check on her every hour to monitor her condition. In trying to find out what went wrong I was met with silence or told absurd and conflicting stories, with staff members trying to cover up for each other with more, clearly nonsense stories. They took no responsibility for the damage they had done and were indifferent to my cat’s dreadful deterioration. Over that weekend I had to bring her in daily for cortisone injections to try to reduce the swelling. She was unable to eat since the operation on the Thursday so almost four days without food other than the tiny amounts I could syringe into her mouth.
The weekend vet then told me to force her to eat which led to her biting her tongue off almost right through. At this point I had lost all trust in them and decided to take her to my usual vet to restitch her tongue (which is now permanently damaged) and insert a feeding tube as she had lost a massive amount of weight and would have died of starvation without being tube fed as she simply could not eat on her own.
These extra surgeries required at my local vet cost me a AN ADDITIONAL thirteen thousand rands, to fix up the damage THEY HAD DONE THROUGH SHEER NEGLIGENCE. Three months later she is still on a feeding tube and cannot eat on her own. Her quality of life is severely physically and emotional impaired, and I too am suffering financially, emotionally and socially as I am unable to attend to my work duties and social activities properly as I cannot leave her unattended for longer than 3 to 4 hours at a time.
I owed this practice a 2000 balance after the operation, costs which were incurred as I had to bring her in twice for the follow up cortisone injections over the weekend to fix the damage they had caused by letting her tongue swell so massively unchecked through the night. Instead of making recompense and absorbing the cost of this damage, they threatened to withhold her cancer biopsy results which I had already paid for (which I later found out were negative) and tried to intimidate me to sign an acknowledgement of debt. They were therefore happy to make me and my cat suffer more and hold possible cancer results hostage over a small amount outstanding which I should never have been charged for in the first place as they needed to fix up the mess caused by negligence. Eventually they conceded to release the results after I called them out for their unethical behaviour, as withholding the results (which I did not know at the time were negative) could have led to her health being threatened even further. My experience was this practice is all about money, lack of accountability and negligence. Unfortunately, as animals do not have the same rights as humans, according to the law, I cannot sue them for negligence and damages. So, use this practice at your own risk to the safety and happiness of your beloved fur baby. Simply put, they just don’t give a damn! I would give them zero if I could. Just posted one star as i could not complete my review without clicking on a star.

If or when your local vet cannot assist you, they’ll refer you to the proper professionals at this centre. Professional, friendly service.

The specialist vets know what they are doing and you can trust them to do what they need to do to get your dog or cat back into tip top shape

Seems like they underwent a recent refurbishment and it’s looking good

Very grateful to Dr Liesl for looking at my little boy when I was worried about an adverse reaction to the standard vaccines. She ran full test panels and took me and my concerns seriously. My boy is eating and drinking again, and almost completely back to his old self. Also, I’m very grateful to the insanely kind and empathetic receptionist, who was welcoming, accommodating, and friendly when I walked in a disheveled mess.

We went to Booysens SPCA yesterday. Staff were friendly, however many kennels were filthy, full of dog shit that had not been cleaned for days. Poor dogs were jumping around in their own faeces. No open space for dogs to get a chance to run around.

The animals are lovely and friendly. However the unprofessional, unfriendly and lazy staff ruin the experience as they would rather have conversations with each other than actually help out. they also refuse to work past 12:30 despite closing at 1 . they surely ruin the adoption experience and could potentially be preventing animal from getting homes due to their laziness.

For a second time , this Vet has either missed a diagnosis or disregarded one – this time leading to an emergency.

Feline asthma seems to be an insignificant condition to Dr Raimund and his team at Olivedale clinic – if you’re a cat owner who would not have their cat fighting for breathe at 2:30 am in the morning, this may not be the practice for you.

As a standard vets do bloodwork and checkups before any procedure, this vet still proceeded with my cats dental and left a note on the invoice saying “Check kidneys”. If you were a good or caring vet you would of called me prior to his dental and mentioned your findings.. but no, you went ahead with the procedure and administered anesthetic. My poor boy was returned to me soaked in his own pee and you didn’t even care.. Your resident vet also said “there is good FIP and bad FIP”, which shows how ignorant you are. Very uncaring, unprofessional and very expensive, almost same prices as specialist vet when they are not one. They write a lot of detail on the invoice instead of explaining it all to you. You people are the worst.

We have had an absolutely phenomenal experience at Oaklands Vet. All of the veterinary doctors are incredible, but we have particular appreciation for Dr Rox Olivier, who assisted us during a difficult time when our dog got very ill. Not only did she show so much compassion and care, but she absolutely went the extra mile in caring for our fur-child. Exceptional Care and Compassion

Grant and his team were phenomenal in caring for my dog during a recent medical emergency. He was quickly and accurately diagnosed with HGE and received prompt, effective treatment that is leading to a full recovery. Despite the practice being busy, the team showed incredible empathy and professionalism, keeping me informed with regular updates throughout his stay with them. Their dedication and expertise made all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thanks to them, my dog is home, on his way to recovery, getting healthy, and happy again. Such a brilliant vet! Our poor kitty had to have a lot of teeth removed, and both Grant and Phillippa were brilliant. We were updated constantly throughout the day, and they answered all our questions with genuine patience and care. We were really put at ease. The practice itself is incredibly well-run, organised and clean. The receptionist, Karen, is also so warm and friendly and made us feel at ease immediately. It’s clear that all these people care deeply for animals. You can absolutely put your trust in them.

Paulshof Veterinary Clinic is truly outstanding! From the moment we walked in, we felt confident that Dash was in the best hands. The clinic is well-organised, clean, and welcoming, creating a reassuring environment for both pets and their owners.

A special mention must go to Greg, who was incredibly helpful, professional, and patient. He took the time to explain everything in detail, ensuring that we fully understood Dash’s treatment and care. His expertise and calm demeanour made the entire experience smooth and stress-free. It’s rare to find someone so dedicated and compassionate, and Greg’s support was truly appreciated.

Another big plus is that their pricing is fair and affordable—definitely not a rip-off like some other places. It’s clear that they prioritise the well-being of animals over making a quick profit.

Paulshof Veterinary Clinic sets the standard for excellent and ethical pet care, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a vet who genuinely cares.

Doctor Ash is amazing and kind… When a little boy cat decided he wanted to adopt us I reached out as we have a teeny baby girl and I was sooo not going to let him make her have babies. Doctor Ash had my new boy fixed, vaccinated and chipped and my baby girl vaccinated and dewormed as well.

I haven’t met a veterinary doctor like her in a long time… I could see she really has a love for helping animals

Honestly one of the best veterinary clinics I’ve ever been to, I had to sadly put down my Pitbul (RIP Titan) who was 12 years old. I highly recommend Dr. as a compassionate veterinarian. During the difficult process of putting my dog down, Dr. demonstrated exceptional empathy and understanding. Their genuine care towards us and our dear Titan made a challenging moment more bearable. The clinic’s overall atmosphere and Dr. professionalism make them a trusted choice for pet care. I highly recommend this veterinary clinic to pet owners.

Dr Ash is one of the most compassionate, patient and caring human beings I’ve encountered in her field. I would recommend her to anyone. She does not charge exorbitant fees or demand payment when you are dealing with something as traumatic as saying goodbye to a pet. She shows so much empathy. She’s really special ❤️
