AVIS Car & Van Rental - OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg

Disgusting service by LESEGO. Firstly, everyone being waiting for 45 - 60 min with no clear signage that Preferred clients have a separate area. I found it very quickly and there were 3 people in the queue. Under the Preferred sign space became available so I went. Was told off as wasn’t Presidential and put back to Lesego. No idea what she was doing but 30 min later (no jokes) she was with the same client. OK, I saw her miserable face so left my partner in the long queue in case she comes up with an excuse. I came to the desk and explained we just left Avis Cape Town and would prefer an automatic car. Tried to change 3 days earlier and app was not accepting it at payment stage. She didn’t even look… just a straight ‘NO’. Fine… thanks (not). I showed her my booking and gave his driving licence explaining the booking is in my name and I’m going to get him from the that queue. Have a guess… she didn’t listen and started searching for his name. Total ignorance. As he joined me she gave us a patronising lecture refusing to serve us etc. How dare you… people standing for hours. The whole place understaffed and Miss Presidential didn’t care helping either. Terrible! Stay away. Europcar and other had no dramas like that. Now… time to leave 5 star review for Avis in Cape Town city centre and the Airport one as the teams were just amazing! You two may book yourselves for a training there perhaps?! EDIT!!! And soooo incompetent! I wish she gave us that BMW as stated on the document (AUTHOMATIC TOO!!!) she sent as we got a Suzuki… idiots, sorry but there is no other polite name!!!

Avis was great!! Yes I did reserve ahead so I would be guaranteed a vehicle when I arrived at JNB. Personnel were pleasant assisting patrons and managing awaiting customers. The vehicle was clean, no damages, no smoke smell etc. Dropping the car off was smooth and swift. No problems were had. Charges were in line with the estimate provided online at time of reservation.

Despite our reservations from past reviews, we had a great experience. Minimal queue time, very very friendly staff and no malicious fees charged on final invoice. We gave the car a tidy up after driving through Kruger, but not much more cleaning than that, we also filled the fuel up in the station close to airport. Rented a Toyota Corolla Cross for 9 days. I hope everyone furture experiences are as positive as ours.

well, as nearly everywhere it’s a pain to get from Avis the invoice for the rental after car return. I really don’t know why it’s such an issue to provide service to customers. Even unable to provide information when the counters open. Besides that, the person who gave me the car was friendly but that’s basically all. Everything else is really not customer friendly so I do not recommend Avis.

Absolutely useless booking system. They let you pay upfront but then don't actually bother to ensure that a car in that group is actually available at collection time. Ended up cancelling my booking because its unacceptable to me that you actually take someone's money offering one thing and then trying to sell some alternative that is nowhere near what was booked.
